Verdict File · Electric Seats Under $300

Budget electric seats: what survives under $300

The short verdict Buy the Alpha JX2 — it is the only seat in this file that surrenders nothing structural: endless warm water, a dryer, a remote and three full warranty years at a street price that regularly lands under $300. The Alpha iX Pure is the same wash idea with the warranty cut to one year. The SmartBidet SB-1000 and Bio Bidet Slim Two trade warranty depth for feature count in opposite directions. The TOTO Washlet A2 and Brondell Swash SE400 are the honest compromises: one drops the dryer, the other drops endless water. Prices below are street ranges, October 2026 — several of these seats list above $300 and qualify on what they actually sell for.
Researched verdict These scorecards are editorial assessments scored from manufacturer specifications, manuals and certification listings under the published rubric. No hands-on laboratory testing is claimed. Prices are street ranges observed at US retailers in October 2026.

Arithmetic: 8.4×.22 + 8.0×.18 + 8.3×.18 + 8.4×.12 + 7.8×.14 + 8.8×.16 = 8.29 → 8.3

HeatingTankless — endless warm water; 1,460W
NozzleStainless steel, self-cleaning; rear & front wash, oscillation & pulse
ExtrasBowl mist (new on the JX2 generation), LED night light with ambient sensor
ComfortHeated seat, warm-air dryer, sittable lid (320 lb class)
ControlsWireless remote with shortcut functions (Easy Wash, Auto Wash/Dry)
FitElongated 20.8″ long; round version sold (19.2–19.4″ class)
Warranty3 years, 100% parts & labour — the file's best promise

Where it wins

  • Nothing structural is missing. Endless water, dryer, remote, night light, bowl mist and a sittable lid — the checklist of the $475–$670 field in the 2026 electric file, at roughly half the street money.
  • The warranty inversion. Three full years at this price, while the TOTO on this page offers one. Warranty compression is this class's usual tax; the JX2 does not levy it.
  • Round availability. A true round JX2 exists — rare at this price with a remote. See the round file.

Where it loses

  • Price straddles the line. Street prices crossed $300 at several retailers at check time. At $329 it is still the file's best value; the “under $300” label is a range statement, not a guarantee.
  • No deodorizer system of the luxury type. Hygiene rests on the self-cleaning nozzle and bowl mist — competent, not a sterilisation programme.
  • Power draw. 1,460W is the joint-highest figure on this page. Tankless heat is bought with current.

Buy it if this is your one bidet purchase and you want no asterisk on the feature list. Skip it if your budget is a hard $300 ceiling on the day — watch the street price, or take the iX Pure below.

Docket V-13 · Budget electric seat

Alpha iX Pure

Alpha Bidet · Elongated & round · Street $229–$299 (Oct 2026)

7.9/10 Worth considering
Wash performance8.3
Hygiene & self-cleaning7.8
Comfort & heating8.2
Controls & usability8.2
Total cost of ownership7.9
Build, warranty & support7.0

Arithmetic: 8.3×.22 + 7.8×.18 + 8.2×.18 + 8.2×.12 + 7.9×.14 + 7.0×.16 = 7.92 → 7.9

HeatingTankless — endless warm water
NozzleStainless steel, arced (the UX Pearl's geometry, carried down-line), self-cleaning + manual clean function
Wash modesRear / front, oscillation & pulse, adjustable position, pressure & temperature; Easy Wash shortcut
ComfortHeated seat, warm-air dryer, blue LED night light with ambient sensor, sittable lid
ControlsWireless remote with large, symbol-led buttons and wall mount
FitElongated & round; needs only 1.4″ from bolt holes to tank — compact-toilet friendly
CertificationsASME A112.4.2 / CSA B45.16; UL 1431 listed
Warranty1 year full (100% parts & labour)

Where it wins

  • The wash survives intact. Tankless endless water and the arced nozzle are the JX2/Pearl formula without the trim — the 8.3 wash score is within 0.1 of the file leader.
  • Tight-tank fit. The 1.4″ bolt-to-tank requirement is the smallest stated figure on this page; compact one-piece toilets that reject other seats accept this one. Central to the small-bathroom file.
  • Remote legibility. Large buttons with clear symbols — the guest-friendliest remote in this file.

Where it loses

  • Warranty compression, textbook case. The same brand sells three full years one rung up. The $30–$70 saved against the JX2 is, in substance, two warranty years sold back.
  • No bowl mist, no deodorizer. The JX2's additions are precisely what the Pure name strips out.

Buy it if the tank clearance is tight or the JX2's street price is over your line on the day. Skip it if the price gap to the JX2 is under $50 — buy the warranty instead.

Docket V-14 · Budget electric seat

SmartBidet SB-1000

SmartBidet (Hitrons) · Elongated & round · Street $179–$249 (Oct 2026)

7.7/10 Worth considering
Wash performance7.9
Hygiene & self-cleaning7.3
Comfort & heating8.1
Controls & usability8.0
Total cost of ownership8.2
Build, warranty & support6.6

Arithmetic: 7.9×.22 + 7.3×.18 + 8.1×.18 + 8.0×.12 + 8.2×.14 + 6.6×.16 = 7.67 → 7.7

HeatingHeated water, 3 temperature levels (heating type not stated as tankless in the manufacturer's listing)
Nozzle3-in-1 self-cleaning nozzle: posterior / feminine / turbo; 5 nozzle positions
Wash control5 pressure levels, oscillation
ComfortHeated seat (multiple levels), warm-air dryer with 5 levels — widest dryer range in this file
ControlsWireless remote; skin sensor; energy-saving mode; quick-release seat
Fit & sizeElongated & round versions; elongated body 20.7″ × 18.9″ × 7.3″ — the bulkiest here; 330 lb capacity stated
Warranty1 year per the manufacturer's listing. Some retail listings advertise three years — the desk scores the manufacturer's figure and flags the discrepancy

Where it wins

  • Feature count per dollar. At the file's lowest street range it still carries a remote, a 5-level dryer and a turbo wash mode the Slim Two charges more to match on wash alone.
  • Round availability at the bottom price. The round SB-1000WR is a genuine round body, not an elongated seat overhanging a round bowl — a distinction the manual itself draws.

Where it loses

  • The warranty fog. One year in the manufacturer's own listing, three years in some retail copy. A buyer should screenshot the terms at purchase; a scorecard can only score the conservative figure.
  • Bulk. At 7.3″ high and 18.9″ wide it is the largest body in this file — the wrong seat for the small-bathroom file.
  • Filtered-water consumable. The hygienic filtered-water path implies a filter to replace; the cost is small and recurring, and it is priced into the TCO rather than hidden.

Buy it if the budget is firm at the low end and a remote plus dryer are non-negotiable. Skip it if warranty clarity matters to you — in this file, that means the JX2.

Docket V-15 · Budget electric seat

Bio Bidet Slim Two

Bio Bidet by Bemis · Elongated & round · Street $189–$259 (Oct 2026)

7.7/10 Worth considering
Wash performance8.0
Hygiene & self-cleaning7.6
Comfort & heating7.7
Controls & usability7.9
Total cost of ownership8.0
Build, warranty & support6.8

Arithmetic: 8.0×.22 + 7.6×.18 + 7.7×.18 + 7.9×.12 + 8.0×.14 + 6.8×.16 = 7.67 → 7.7

HeatingFusion heating — temperature held from start to finish of the wash; 870W max; 1.2 m cord
NozzleStainless steel 3-in-1, self-cleaning: posterior / feminine / turbo, oscillation, massage (dual pulse), child wash
ComfortHeated seat, night light, slow-close seat & lid, quick release. No warm-air dryer — the file's clearest single omission alongside the A2
ControlsWireless remote; intelligent body sensor; automatic power save
FitElongated & round (Slim Two R, 19.5″ long class)
Warranty1 year limited (US & Canada)

Where it wins

  • The wash hardware. The 3-in-1 stainless nozzle with a genuine turbo mode is BB-series hardware carried down in price; the 8.0 wash score leads the non-Alpha seats here.
  • Fusion heating, honestly described. The claim is temperature stability across the wash, not endless volume — a narrower promise than “tankless endless,” and the spec sheet's 870W draw is the file's lowest.

Where it loses

  • No dryer. Buyers comparing feature grids will miss it; the comfort score prices it in. If a dryer is the point, the SB-1000 and both Alphas include one for similar money.
  • One warranty year from the brand that sells five. Bio Bidet's own Discovery DLS carries five full years. The compression is a pricing decision, and the score says so.

Buy it if wash quality outranks drying and you want Bio Bidet hardware at its floor price. Skip it if a dryer is on your must-have list — it is not hidden in a menu; it is not fitted.

Docket V-16 · Budget electric seat

TOTO Washlet A2

TOTO · Elongated only (SW3004) · List $567 · Street $255–$350 (Oct 2026)

7.5/10 Worth considering
Wash performance7.6
Hygiene & self-cleaning7.9
Comfort & heating7.2
Controls & usability7.4
Total cost of ownership7.5
Build, warranty & support7.4

Arithmetic: 7.6×.22 + 7.9×.18 + 7.2×.18 + 7.4×.12 + 7.5×.14 + 7.4×.16 = 7.51 → 7.5

HeatingWarm water, 95–104°F, 3 temperature settings; heating type not stated on the manufacturer's sheet; 287W — lowest draw in this file
NozzleSelf-cleaning wand in CLEAN RESIN; rear / front, dual-action spray with oscillation; 5 pressure settings
Not fittedNo warm-air dryer, no deodorizer, no EWATER+, no PREMIST — the TOTO hygiene stack starts above this model
ComfortHeated seat (3 settings), SoftClose seat & lid
ControlsSide arm panel, illuminated buttons — no remote, no presets
Fit & sizeElongated only; 20.93″ × 18.63″ × 6.63″ — the side arm sets the width
Warranty1 year limited

Where it wins

  • Provenance at the price. TOTO's wand engineering, resin and parts network at a $255 street floor. The hygiene score (7.9) is second in this file despite the absent EWATER+ — the self-cleaning wand is the substance, the electrolysed water is the addition.
  • Power manners. At 287W it is the only seat here that will never trouble a shared circuit.
  • No remote to lose. The arm panel is always where you left it. In a rental or a guest bathroom, that is a feature.

Where it loses

  • The dryer is not fitted. Against the JX2 at overlapping street prices, the A2 gives up the dryer, the remote, endless-water claims and two warranty years. What remains is the brand and the wand.
  • Elongated only. No round A2 is sold in the US line.
  • List-price theatre. A $567 list against a $255 street floor is the widest gap in this file; judge it only on street.

Buy it if you want TOTO's wand and support network and do not use a dryer. Skip it if you are feature-counting — the JX2 wins that count at the same money.

Docket V-17 · Budget electric seat

Brondell Swash SE400

Brondell · Elongated & round · Street $249–$329 (Oct 2026)

7.5/10 Worth considering
Wash performance7.8
Hygiene & self-cleaning7.5
Comfort & heating8.0
Controls & usability7.0
Total cost of ownership7.6
Build, warranty & support6.9

Arithmetic: 7.8×.22 + 7.5×.18 + 8.0×.18 + 7.0×.12 + 7.6×.14 + 6.9×.16 = 7.51 → 7.5

HeatingTank system — warm water is stored, not endless; long washes outrun the tank
NozzleStainless steel, positionable, self-cleaning; oscillation & massage pulse
ComfortHeated seat, warm-air dryer, blue night light, gentle-close sittable lid, auto eco mode, deodorizer function listed
ControlsSide arm panel — no remote, no user presets; one-touch auto mode
Fit & sizeElongated & round (SE400-RW, 19.5″ long); body 6.1″ high, 18.5″ wide incl. arm
Warranty1 year limited (authorised seller)

Where it wins

  • The complete comfort set. Dryer, heated seat, night light and a sittable lid — the only seat besides the Alphas and SB-1000 here with the full set, from an established US brand's support desk.
  • Hidden connection pocket. Carried down from the Swash 1400: cords and hoses tuck away instead of draping. At this price, nobody else bothers.

Where it loses

  • Tank water in a tankless file. Both Alphas and the Slim Two's fusion system hold temperature without a stored volume that cools. On a long wash, the SE400's water tells you the tank is empty. That is the structural compromise of this seat.
  • Side arm width and reach. The arm sets an 18.5″ overall width and asks the user to operate controls beside the thigh — workable, and the lowest controls score here for a reason.
  • One year, again. Brondell's own 1400 tiers over three years; the SE400's single year is the class tax, unpaid by only one seat in this file.

Buy it if you prefer a side arm to a remote and wash in short sessions the tank can serve. Skip it if long warm washes are the ritual — endless water starts with the iX Pure.

The under-$300 pattern, stated plainly

What survives: heated seats (all six), stainless nozzles (five of six), oscillation (all six), night lights (five of six). What is compressed: warranty — five of six seats carry one year, against three-to-five years above this price; the JX2 is the exception that proves the compression is a choice. What disappears first: dryers (A2, Slim Two), remotes (A2, SE400 — side arms instead), endless water (SE400's tank), and round versions (A2). None of the six offers an auto lid, a sterilisation cycle, or user presets beyond the Alpha shortcuts.

Round availability in this file: JX2, iX Pure, SB-1000, Slim Two and SE400 are all sold in true round versions; the A2 is elongated only. The full accounting is in the round file, and the sub-$200 ladder — attachments and non-electric seats included — is in the budget ladder file.

Frequently asked questions

Can a sub-$300 seat really have endless warm water?

Yes — tankless heating is a component cost, not a luxury tier. The JX2 and iX Pure both heat on demand. The qualification is electrical: tankless seats draw 1,400W-class current while heating, against the A2's 287W. Endless refers to volume, not to gentleness on the circuit.

Why do five of these six seats carry only one year of warranty?

Warranty is where the price is found. Parts commonality across a brand's range means the difference between the iX Pure's one year and the JX2's three is a policy decision priced into the shelf gap. The desk scores the published term, not the hardware's likely lifespan — and advises buying the longer term when the gap is under roughly $70.

Side arm or remote at this price — which is better?

Side arms (A2, SE400) cannot be lost, need no batteries, and widen the seat to 18.5–18.6″ overall. Remotes (the other four) allow presets, finer control and wall mounting, and stop working when their batteries die — except where a backup knob exists. In a household's only bathroom, the remote seats score higher here; in a rental, the arm has a case.

Is the TOTO A2 worth it over the Alpha JX2?

On the rubric, no: 7.5 against 8.3, with the dryer, remote and two warranty years surrendered. The A2's case is narrower — TOTO's service network, the lowest power draw in the file, and a preference for the wand's spray character as specified. It is a defensible purchase; it is not the value purchase.

Do any under-$300 seats fit round toilets?

Five of the six — all but the A2. Round versions are separate SKUs with shorter bodies (the round JX2 is roughly 1.5″ shorter than its elongated twin); ordering the elongated version for a round bowl produces overhang the manuals themselves warn against.

Sources & evidence Manufacturer product pages, specification sheets and owner manuals (Alpha Bidet JX2 and iX Pure including certification listings to ASME A112.4.2 / UL 1431; TOTO USA Washlet A2 SW3004 sheet; Brondell Swash SE400 specifications; SmartBidet SB-1000 manufacturer listing; Bio Bidet Slim Two user's guide including rated power and warranty term), warranty documents as published by each manufacturer, and US retailer price observations, October 2026. Where retail copy and the manufacturer's listing disagree on warranty (SB-1000), the manufacturer's figure is scored and the disagreement is stated in the scorecard.
